Tehran : Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said Sunday talks are underway between Iran, India and pakistan to fix the price for the Peace Pipeline gas.
Hosseini’s remarks came during a televised interview with Channel One of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) when he was asked if Iran had offered any discounts to the other sides in the project.
“No decision has been finalized yet and discussions are still underway,” Hosseini said adding that any agreement to this end “should finally be endorsed by the relevant Iranian officials and the Majlis.”
Negotiations for the 7.4-billion-dollar project started in 1994.
The project is to be jointly carried out by Iran, Pakistan and India to transfer Iran’s natural gas to India via Pakistan.
The 2,600-km pipeline would carry 60 million cubic meters of gas a day at the initial stage.
“The parties have not reached a fixed price for the gas yet,” Hosseini said adding, “The Iranian side believes the gas price cannot be fixed from the outset and that new agreements should be reached on the price once in a while based on the changes in the gas price in the world market.
