Colombo : The Sri Lankan government said Tuesday the attack on the country’s cricket team in Pakistan will not affect the relationship between the two countries.
Speaking to reporters in Colombo on the attack, Sri Lankan Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohona said, “This incident is unlikely to cause restraints between the two countries.”
He also said Sri Lanka was confident that the Pakistani government would do their utmost to apprehend and bring to justice the perpetrators of this dastardly attack.
Six members of the Sri Lankan cricket team were injured and seven people, including six Pakistani policemen, were killed when a dozen of heavily armed gunmen opened fire at the bus carrying the cricketers who were being driven to the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore for the third day’s play of their last Test match with Pakistan.
Government officials said the cricket team would return to Sri Lanka Wednesday morning.
Most foreign teams have declined to tour Pakistan citing security threats from Islamic militants.
