Karachi : The cash-strapped Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will get a financial boost later this year as it is set to receive $2.75 million from the International Cricket Council (ICC) as an additional share from the incomes generated by the Champions Trophy.
The Champions Trophy has been shifted to South Africa but as original host, Pakistan will receive $2 million as its share from the gate money and another $750,000 as hosting fees.
Pakistan was supposed to host the Champions Trophy in September last year but the tournament was postponed after five of the eight competing teams refused to tour the country because of security apprehensions.
At that time, ICC had said that Pakistan will get a financial compensation for the Trophy switch.
However, after the ICC voted against holding the Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka — the alternate venue — and decided to award it to South Africa, doubts were raised whether Pakistan will be given any compensation.
However, a senior PCB official made it clear that Pakistan’s share will not be affected by the latest ICC decision. Saleem Altaf, the PCB chief operating officer, said if the ICC would give financial aid to South Africa, it would have no impact on the PCB’s share.
Though the ICC Executive Board decided to shift the event to South Africa following a teleconference Monday, a final decision will be taken at Dubai in a meeting scheduled for April 16.
