Jammu : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh Friday asked the Congress party to explain what had happened to its promise to rebuild the Babri mosque in Ayodhya.
“I want to ask both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gnadhi as to why they have not been able to construct the Babri mosque, which they had promised more than one and a half decade ago,” Singh said, addressing a public rally at the Parade Ground here.
The BJP chief launched his party’s poll campaign for Jammu. The BJP has fielded the Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti’s former comvenor Leela Karan Sharma from the Jammu-Poonch parliamentary constituency.
Singh scoffed at the prime minister’s charge that the BJP’s prime ministerial aspirant L.K. Advani was involved in the demolition of the Babri mosque in December 1992, saying, “What is the prime minister up to?”
“Now I have a question. The Congress had promised to build the Babri mosque. What happened to that?”
He urged the people to vote for the BJP to “save the nation”.
