New Delhi : A Delhi police official was suspended Thursday after his alleged negligence in registering a complaint regarding a city businessman who went missing apparently led to his death.
The incident came to light Thursday when Delhi Police recovered the body of Sumit Chauhan from Kotwali area in central Delhi.
The victim's father Charan Bhadur alleged that his son, a cloth trader in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar area, went missing Monday while on his way to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. He went there to collect money from a trader.
"After waiting for a day, we went to the police station to register a missing complaint but the head constable Ved Prakash refused to lodge any case," Bhadur said.
Bhadur added: "My son could have been saved if they (police) had taken action immediately after he went missing."
Angry people and relatives of the victim staged a protest at the police station and could only be dispersed after authorities suspended the official concerned.
"Head constable Ved Prakash has been suspended and matter is being probed by senior police officials," Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Chadhary said.
