Bhopal : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj Monday lashed out at the Congress and said that most young leaders of the party owe their place to “compassionate” grounds.
“Starting from the top, be it Rahul Gandhi, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot, Jatin Prasada or Priya Dutt – all have got their present position due to the vacancies created by the demise of their respective fathers,” Swaraj told reporters here.
Defending BJP leader L.K. Advani’s remarks that Manmohan Singh was a weak prime minister, she said it referred to his “working style” and not the person.
“It was purely a political comment and Advani did not attack prime minister’s personality but pointed out his style of work. The party leaders had to say so because the prime minister was not able to take any decision on his own but wait for the directives from somewhere else,” said Swaraj, who is in-charge of her party’s elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
She said Manmohan Singh is the first prime minister who remained a member of the Rajya Sabha while others in the past went to the people at the first available opportunity.
“He is not contesting these elections either. In democracy the power is in the people’s hand and if one has no faith in people, how can people have faith in him?” she said.
