BMMCC demands BJP to clarify its stance on court verdict on Babri Masjid

By RINA,

New Delhi: Expressing their stance on BJP’s promise in its recent manifesto to explore all possibilities for construction of Ram Mandir, Babri Masjid Movement Coordination Committee (BMMCC) demanded the party to clarify its stand on finality of court verdict on Babri Masjid.

In a press statement issued here today, BMMCC convener Syed Shahabuddin pointed out, “BJP manifesto says the party will explore possibilities including court decision for construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya but that is not the issue. The real issue is that of exact location.” Sangh Parivar has been adamant to build the temple at the very place of existing Babri Masjid.

Dialogues on the issue failed to yield any result till 1986, whereupon all related cases were clubbed and referred to Allahabad High Court. Demolition of Babri Masjid halted all proceedings but Supreme Court revived them in 1994. Any reconciliatory dialogues in this connection are now almost ruled out.

Referring to BJP president Rajnath Singh’s statement that several Mosques will be built in Ayodhya if Muslims would allow building Ram Mandir at the very place of Babri Masjid, Syed Shahabuddin said, “This statement gives the impression that this program is BJP’s top most priority while in fact the matter is in the court.”

BMMCC statement further says: “Babri Masjid ownership case is in final stages in Allahabad High Court and Muslims are agreed to honoring court verdict whether it would favour them or not but Hindus have not given such any assurance so far.” Syed Shahabuddin said, “Since BJP is a party bound by the Constitution, it should avow to honour court verdict.”

According to the press statement, Indian Supreme Court has readied a road map for construction of a Masjid and a Mandir at some distance from the land acquired in Ayodhya. However, it depends on final decision by the court whether a temple or a Mosque will be built on the controversial site.

On the other hand, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Ram Janam Bhoomi Nyas have announced that they will not tolerate any Mosque inside Panchkosi Parikrama and that practically means anywhere in Ayodhya, much beyond the acquired land. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not clarified its stance on this issue.

BMMCC has requested BJP to accept court verdict on ownership of controversial site, to cooperate in implementation of Supreme Court’s road map and to prevent Vishwa Hindu Parishad from demolition other places of worship in Ayodhya.
