New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Wednesday slapped a fine of Rs.100,000 on a non-resident Indian, accused of rape, for filing a “misleading” plea for quashing the charges against him.
Justice S. Muralidhar dismissed the plea of Neeraj Gulati and fined him for stating wrong facts in his plea.
According to the prosecution, Neeraj had raped his servant, a native of Jharkhand, in his Naraina home here February 15, 2007. A first information report confirming the sexual assault was filed Feb 19.
The court asked Neeraj to deposit the fine with the Delhi Legal Services Authority and asked Delhi Police to bring him to India and try him at the earliest.
