3600 Muslim families of Gujarat still live in temporary camps

Gandhinagar: Today, Gujarat government has for the first time admitted the pitiable condition of thousands of Muslim families unable to return to their homes even after a lapse of five years and continuing to live in relief camps in state of extreme helplessness. Gujarat government admitted before National Minorities Commission that even today, there are such 3600 Muslim families in the state who have not been able to return to their homes even five years after the riots. They are given shelter in 69 temporary colonies.

Thousands of Muslim families were devastated in Gujarat riots in 2002 and forced to leave their homes to live in relief camps. National Minorities Commission had called in Gujarat chief secretary to investigate into pitiable condition of thousands of homeless riot victims that linger on living in relief camps even today. Gujarat chief secretary admitted before the Commission last week that 3600 families could not go back to their homes till date. This admission is a slap on Narender Modi government, which denies that Gujarat riot victims are homeless even today and are staying in temporary camps. National Minorities Commission has asked for more details about the pitiable condition of and the steps taken for 3600 Muslim families living in 69 temporary camps.
