New Delhi: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has indicated that it is ready to play the role of a mediator for reconciliation between confronting Meena and Gujjar communities in Rajasthan. Since the violent agitation for reservation for Gujjars, their relations with Meenas, already availing reservation as Scheduled Caste, have only worsened. The recent Lok Sabha elections have just added to the confrontation.
The Rajasthan state unit of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind yesterday announced that it “is all set to work for reconciliation between the confronting Meena and Gujjar communities in the state.” The announcement was made by state president of JIH, Engineer Muhammad Saleem at the end of a two-day conference of the unit and district heads of the organization.
The program passed eight resolutions. The Gujjar-Meena issue tops the resolution.
“Keeping in sight the post-poll caste disgust and probable conflict between the communities, it was resolved in the conference that the Jamaat workers will make efforts along with other social and human right organizations to reconcile between the confronting groups and establish peace and harmony in the affected area.”
Engineer Saleem expressed his happiness over the verdict of the Lok Sabha elections which have cornered the communal forces.
“We are happy that our democracy and people both have proved to be ‘mature’ in this election” said Mr. Saleem. “People have clearly indicated that there is no room in Indian politics for the forces of communalism and hatred, dividing the society on the basis of cast and religion, and having fascist mindset”, he added.
Jamaat has also resolved to strive to get implemented the recommendations made by the Justice Sachar and Justice Ranganath Mishra committees, especially those about special quota for minorities in the OBC or reservation and their appropriate representation in police, military and other administrative services.
It has demanded the government to issue a white paper on the terrorist incidents that took place in past 10 years and their investigation and judicial processes carried out so far. It has also demanded to speed up the legal process going on against the people arrested in the name of terrorist activities.
The Jamaat wants review of the investigations into the Ajmer Dargah and Jaipur blasts.
The resolution on this issue says:
“It will be demanded to review the investigations carried out so far in the bomb blast cases at Ajmer Dargah and Jaipur as we have strong objection on the biased attitude adopted in the investigations by the former government. We are of the opinion that the previous government has been striving only to accomplish its communal agenda in the guise of investigations and implicated a number of innocent persons in false cases. Stern action should be taken against the police officers who were busy in implementing the communal agenda of the BJP government and harassing and humiliating the Muslim community.”
