Bhubaneswar : The centre is helping Maoist-affected states in every possible way, union Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily said here Monday, adding that the UPA government did not “dabble in politics” on such a serious issue.
Speaking in Bhubaneswar, Moily said: “We are not dabbling in politics on a grave issue like Naxalism (Maoism).”
“We are extending all help to state governments – whether it is deploying central forces or giving monetary help, the centre is ready to provide all help to deal with the Naxal menace,” he added.
“In fact a word of appreciation has come from West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee for the help from the centre,” he said, highlighting the central help in dealing with the Maoist menace in Lalgarh in West Bengal.
He said that the centre is of view that the Maoist issue should be dealt with both as a law and order and social problem.
Lauding the Andhra Pradesh government’s “success” in dealing with the leftwing problem, Moily said other state governments should follow suit.
State governments should deal with the “menace” as both a social and law and order problem to “root it out completely”, he advised.
