Kochi: The state Wakf Board will increase the financial aids for education, said Paloli Muhammed Kutty, Minister in charge of Wakf Affairs. He was inaugurating the ‘Pratibha Sangamam,’ the meet of the students receiving the Wakf scholarships in the state, at the Lulu International Convention Centre, Thrissur.
The Board is providing only a very small amount as financial aid. Aid for marriages is only Rs 2000. This too will be increased. As the need and those deserving are very high in number, the Minister said he would try to get more aid from the central government. The contributions of people too will be used for the purpose, he added.
Famous expatriate Malayali and Padma Shree Award-winner MA Yusufali was honoured at the function. Importance should be given to education, especially, women’s education, in order to bring Muslims on the path to progress, said Mr Yusufali, who was also a former member of the Central Wakf Committee.
KV Abdul Qader, MLA, chairman, state Wakf Board, presided over the function. Dr MR Haq, secretary, Central Wakf Council, KE Ismail, MP, and Adv TK Saidalikkutty, Adv PV Sainudheen, Dr Hussain Madavoor, PP Abdul Rahman, N Ali Abdulla, Adv KA Hasan and Muhammedali Valancheri, members of the state Wakf Board, spoke at the function. BM Jamal, CEO, Wakf Board, gave away the note of welcome and TA Abdul Basheer delivered the vote of thanks.
