The committee will map the roads between three important gurudwaras – Sri Anandpur Sahib and Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in Punjab and Sri Nanded Sahib in Maharashtra, Public works department minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa announced.

The Punjab government will then request the centre to rename all the roads that are covered by this map Guru Gobind Singh Marg.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal is keen that the road map be completed before the tercentenary celebration of the ‘Guru-ta-gaddi diwas’ from Oct 6 next year.

The committee will have members of the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) – the mini-parliament of Sikhs – as special invitees. The committee has been asked to travel personally along the route before finalising the map.

They have been asked to keep the historical importance of the route and religious sentiments of Sikhs in mind while drawing up the road map.

The road map will have to be approved by the SGPC after which it will be submitted to the Punjab government.
