At least 17 people were killed and 76 injured, some seriously, when a Taliban suicide bomber detonated a car packed with explosives near the Indian embassy in Kabul Thursday morning in the second such terror attack since July 2008. Three personnel of Indian paramilitary guarding the premises were injured.

“By attacking the diplomatic representation of a state once again, the terrorists have chosen the entire international community that aids and supports the Afghan people as a target,” said French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner in a statement.

He conveyed his “sincerest condolences to the families and near and dear ones of the victims”.

He assured “Indian and Afghan authorities of France’s deep solidarity in this ordeal”.

“We express once again France’s determined support to the Afghan authorities in the fight against terrorism,” said Kouchner.
