Badal asks police chief to probe TV channel’s ‘blasphemy’

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Monday asked the state police chief to investigate the incident of “blasphemy” by a TV channel, which allegedly made certain objectionable and derogatory remarks about Bhawan Valmiki last week.

Badal assured appropriate action to a high level delegation of the Valmik Samaj, led by its president Raj Kumar Atikay, which met him Monday and demanded exemplary punishment for the guilty.

“It has not only hurt the sentiments of Valmik Samaj but also stirred the emotions of the people in general. Peace, communal harmony and religious tolerance in Punjab would be maintained at all costs and no one will be allowed to play with the religious sentiments of the people,” Badal said.

The Punjab chief minister also informed Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni of the the matter, and urged her to immediately initiate action against the channel for violation of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995.
