India’s swine flu toll crosses 400

New Delhi: Six swine flu deaths, including three from Maharashtra, took the total of India’s swine flu deaths to 405 Thursday, health ministry said.

Besides Maharashtra, two deaths were reported from Gujarat and one from Kerala.

With these fatalities, Maharashtra’s swine flu casualty figure has reached 171. The deaths in Gujarat now stand at 38, and in Kerala at least 10 people have succumbed to the contagious virus.

Also, the country reported 152 fresh cases, which took the influenza A (H1N1) infection figure in India to 12,486.

“Of the 152 cases reported during the day, six cases have foreign travel history and the rest are indigenous cases,” the union health ministry said in a statement.

Of the fresh cases, 46 were from Delhi, followed by 19 in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Maharashtra each. While 17 cases were reported from Karnataka, 14 people were found positive in Haryana.

Uttar Pradesh saw seven new cases, followed by three cases each in Uttarakhand and Puducherry. Two cases were reported from Jammu and Kashmir.

Orissa, Bihar and Goa reported one case each.

Among the states, Maharashtra tops the overall infection tally with 3,417 cases followed by Delhi where 3,206 people have been infected with the virus.
