Kochi: No organised religious conversions have been noted in Kerala, informed the Central Intelligence Bureau to the state High Court. The IB’s explanation has followed the report of the state DGP that no organisation or movement in the name of ‘love jihad’ was functioning in the state.
No evidence have been secured regarding any organised religious conversion in the name of ‘love jihad’ in the state, said TPM Ibrahim Khan, assistant solicitor general, who was present in the court for the IB. The court asked the central government to submit a report on the matter. Since more time was needed to submit the report, the case has been postponed to November 11.
The court expressed its dissatisfaction over the report submitted by the state DGP, Jacob Punnoose, on ‘love jihad’. The court pointed out that there were certain unclear explanations in the report. It has asked the DGP to submit the reports of the district police superintendents or other officers concerned which the DGP had used to prepare his report. The reports should be submitted in a sealed cover. The DGP could also submit an additional report if he wanted to give more explanation.
Justice KT Shankaran observed that certain answers given in the report were vague and that the statements in different paragraphs did not appear to reconcile with each other.
The DGP submitted his report on October 22 which stated that there was no evidence for any organisation called ‘love jihad’ functioning in Kerala so far. But he also added that there were reasons to suspect the existence of organised efforts to convert non-Muslim girls to Islam after Muslim boys feigned love with them. However, he had pointed out that investigation was going on in the matter.
