Kolkata : A tiger and its cub sneaked out of West Bengal’s Sundarbans biosphere and entered human habitation Sunday morning, state forest department officials said.
The incident took place at Kultali area of Sundarbans as villagers found pugmarks of the tiger and immediately informed the nearest forest office and the local police.
State forest department officials confirmed the news, saying the pugmarks were that of a full-grown tiger and its cub.
“We’ve covered the entire area with nylon nets. But no tiger has been spotted so far,” a local source said, adding that police personnel have also been deployed in the area.
The Sunderbans, a stretch of impenetrable mangrove forest of great size and bio-diversity, is home to more than 250 tigers.
