The court, which also imposed Rs.500 as fine on each of the convicts, delivered its verdict after they pleaded guilty.

Telgi’s advocate Farhatullah told reporters that his client confessed his involvement in the scam.

The judgment has come in one of the two cases registered against Telgi and his associated in Hyderabad.

The CBI has not yet filed chargesheet in the other case. Telgi faces about 50 cases in the fake stamp paper scam in different parts of the country.

Patwegar Abdul Wahid, Jacob Chacko, Badruddin, B. Sadasiva and Mohd Yousuf Singoti alias Sajju, who were sentenced along with Telgi, sold fake stamps to banks and insurance companies here.

“While some cases have been disposed of, hearing is on in some other cases,” Rafatullah said.

Telgi has already been sentenced to seven to 13 years in various cases in Mumbai, Bangalore and other cities.
