New Delhi : Two days after an alleged firing near the five-star Ashok Hotel, Delhi Police Saturday were still struggling to establish whether the incident actually occurred.
“We have some leads and are working on them. But we are yet to conclude if any such incident took place. We do not have any complainant or victim. No one has approached us so far,” Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) S. Dash told IANS.
Ashok Hotel authorities informed police Jan 28 by a letter sent to Dash’s office that a firing incident took place outside the exit gate. A cartridge was enclosed with the letter. The hotel authorities also gave police the registration number of a car that might belong to the people involved in the incident.
Police registered a case under the Arms Act at the Chanakyapuri police station that evening.
“They sent us a letter and cartridge after 12 hours. I do not know why it took so long for them. They could have called the police control room number 100,” Dash added.
He said police had traced the car.
“It belongs to a person residing in Kingsway Camp in north Delhi. The owner has a license for a revolver but the cartridge found is of a pistol. The onwer said he was not present at the time of alleged incident. But his son, Chintu Dhingra could have taken the car out,” Dash said.
“We are now trying to trace Dhingra,” he added.
