New Delhi: Leaders cutting across party lines Saturday asked for a discussion on price rise in the Lok Sabha during the budget session that starts Monday.
At a meeting convened by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar ahead of the session, “all party leaders demanded discussion on price rise in the house”, said a participant who did not want to be identified. “It was an almost unanimous demand.”
The speaker convened the meeting to seek the support of leaders to ensure smooth functioning of the house during the budget session.
The Left party leaders demanded that parliament meet for 100 days every year.
Kerala Congress-Mani (KC-M) leader Jose K. Mani demanded a hike in local area development fund for Members of Parliament.
“The present amount (Rs.2 crore) is very inadequate,” he told IANS.
The session will start Monday with the president’s address to both houses and conclude May 7, with a break of more than three weeks in between.
The general budget will be presented Feb 26 and the railway budget Feb 24.
