AMU Executive Council meeting Friday to decide campus opening

Aligarh: A special meeting of the Executive Council of the Aligarh Muslim University has been called on Friday to discuss future course of action according to an EC member.

Dr. Jamshed Siddiqi, member of the Executive Council while talking to TwoCircles.net informed that most of the students have left the campus and now the administration will decide how to open the university as soon as possible.

Vice Chancellor of AMU, Prof. PK Abdul Azis has also returned to the campus and the special meeting of the 25 members Executive Council of the university has been called to discuss the modalities of bringing the university back to its normal functioning state.

Dr. Siddiqi informed that perpetrators of the violence that lead to burning and looting of VC lodge have been identified and action will be taken against these students soon.

AMU was closed indefinitely on Monday (17th September 2007) after students attacked university offices and Vice-Chancellor’s residence. VC Prof. PK Abdul Azis was not in town that day. Violence followed killing of a student late Sunday night, third such killing this year.

A week ago there was a demonstration by girls of Abdullah Hall over an alleged rape. A team investigating that allegation is to submit its report within a week.
