Jammu : Ruling coalition partners in Jammu and Kashmir — National Conference (NC) and Congress — will jointly contest the upcoming municipal polls in the state, according to official sources.
The polls are scheduled to be held in April this year.
According to the sources, the NC and the Congress will contest all those seats, which they currently hold in the two municipal corporations in the two capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar, and municipal councils, town area committees and notified area committees in other towns in the state.
The parties would contest in equal numbers the seats held by the opposition parties, the Peoples Democratic Party, Bharatiya Janta Party and Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party and independents.
“There will be no friendly contest between the two parties in any of the seats in the local bodies polls,” a minister, who is part of the coordination committee of the NC and Congress, told IANS.
The NC and Congress had fought the assembly elections in the state as rivals, but had a seat arrangement during the Lok Sabha elections in 2009, though there was a contest between them for the Ladakh seat, which the Congress lost.
