BSP supporters win UP waqf boards elections

Lucknow: Ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ruled the roost in the Sunni Central Board of Wakfs (SCBW) elections in Lucknow. BSP’s candidates Zufar Farooqui (Sitapur) and Adnan Farrukh Shah (Gorakhpur) under mutawalli quota besides Mujtaba Siddiqui (Allahabad) and Farhat Hasan (Amroha) both under MLA quota were declared victorious.

The elections management was poor as large voter turnout resulted in chaos at the SCBW office in Mall Avenue area of Lucknow. Zufar Farooqui (Sitapur) and Adnan Farrukh Shah (Gorakhpur) under mutawalli quota defeated Fareed Ahmed and Hafiz Tanzeem both of Aligarh. Zufar Farooqui got 160 first preference votes while Adnan Farrukh polled 153 votes. Fareed Ahmed could get only 20 votes and Hafiz Tanzeem Ahmed got only 14 votes.

In the MLA quota, Mohd Mujtaba and Farhat Hasan got first preference 36-36 votes each while Riyaz Ahmed (Pilibhit) and Imran Masood (Saharanpur) both MLA got 17-17 votes each. A total of 180 votes were polled from 215 votes in mutawalli quota while 44 votes from 59 were polled in MLA quota.

In SCBW Qaiser Jahan (Sitapur) and Begum Tabassum Hasan (Muzaffarnagar ) both from MP quota while Shahnawaz Rana and Imran Mabood Khan from state bar council quota have already been elected. The remaining five members will be nominated by the state government who will then elect their chairman among themselves.

In the Shia Wakf Board (SWB) Akhter Hasan Rizvi and Mukhtar Abbas were elected under MP quota while Abbas Ali Zaidi and Shadab Fatima were elected under MLA quota. In the mutawalli quota Waseem Rizvi (outgoing chairman) and Wali Ul Hasan were declared elected.
