New Delhi : “Difficult moments” is how Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has described his questioning by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the 2002 riots, while thanking his supporters for standing by him.
In a blog post-dated March 28, Modi said, “The Supreme Court appointed SIT (the special Investigating Team) and its marathon inquiry lasting till one in the morning has naturally worried you.”
Modi was Saturday questioned for over nine hours at the headquarters of the Supreme Court-appointed SIT in Gandhinagar Saturday on a petition by Zakia Jaffri, whose husband, former MP Ehsan Jaffri, was killed in the 2002 riots. She has alleged that the chief minister was party to the communal violence that swept Gujarat.
Noting that he was only following legal procedure, Modi asserted, “I have, in all humility, tried to respect the law of our great land and endeavoured to respect the supremacy of the law by my behaviour”.
He expressed his gratitude for the concern showed by his supporters during his questioning. “I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your good feelings and concerns that you showed for me during the difficult moments of yesterday,” he said, adding, “May the god, after this event, instil further strength in me.”
