Kozhikode: The Chief Minister of Kerala has decided to convene an all-party meeting to solve the problems related to the Kinalur road issue.
Representatives of different political parties in Kozhikode district would attend the meeting to be held in Thiruvananthapuram. The date of meeting will be fixed later. The decision to convene a meeting came up in the Cabinet meeting yesterday, in which the ministers discussed about the Kinalur issue for about an hour.
In another development, the Registration Department IG has reportedly given directions to inquire into the land transactions in the Kinalur area since 2005. The direction has reached the sub-registrar offices in Balussery and Thamarassery via the district Registrar. The new direction is supposed to bring out all the facts related to land transactions in the area, which will help to get a clear picture, especially of the land mafia allegation raised by the protestors.
The Vanitha League, women’s wing of the Muslim League, condemned the statement of the state Women’s Commission on the beating of women in Kinalur. The Chief Minister should visit the place and get to the conditions there, said the state president Qamarunnisa Anwar in a press conference in Kozhikode.
Meanwhile, ‘Justicia’, an organization of lawyers, visited Kinalur and collected evidence from the victims of the conflict and other local people. The fact-finding committee consisting of former district judge Adv C Khalid, retired High Court lawyers Adv Chandrashekhar and Adv KM Thomas held sittings in the affected areas such as Kinalur, Malikkadavu, Vattoli and Nanmanda. The report of the committee will be submitted to the Chief Minister and Industries Minister, informed Adv Ahmed Kutty Puthalath, Adv MC Anish and Adv P Faisal, the office-bearers of the ‘Justicia’ who accompanied the fact-finding team.
The small village of Kinalur in Kozhikode district began to make headlines in Kerala when the local people clashed with police on May 6 in relation with a land survey for road construction. The police reportedly beat up the people while the people pelted stones and poured cow-dung water on the police. The survey was for a new road to be constructed connecting Kinalur with Manikkadavu to facilitate good road connection to the proposed industrial park in the area. People protested against the survey as the proposed road would devoid many of them of their homes and lands as well as farmlands. There are also allegations that the road is to help the land mafia which has a lot of land in the area.
