Bengaluru: The Bengaluru court yesterday ordered a non-bailable arrest warrant against PDP chairman Abdunnasir Ma’dani in the Bengaluru blast case. Meanwhile two members of the PDP tried to commit suicide at Anvarsseri in Kollam following news that Ma’dani would be arrested soon. PDP members have reportedly begun infinite fasting in front of the Anvarsseri Yatheemkhana patronized by Ma’dani.
Bengaluru Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Venkatesh Guruji has reportedly directed the Karnataka Central Crime Branch to present Ma’dani before the court by 23rd of this month. The Bengaluru court issued arrest warrant for Ma’dani in the Bengaluru blast case even as Ma’dani’s lawyers were trying to submit an anticipatory bail petition. However, they could no submit one as they did not get a copy of the chargesheet.
The news that Ma’dani could be arrested soon created tension in Anvarsseri where the PDP lives. Two members of the party – PDP Mainagappalli panchayat committee joint secretary Noushad (24) and Shareef (27) tried to commit suicide pouring kerosene over themselves. However, party members rescued them before setting fire and took them to hospital. Nearly 2000 PDP members went on a demonstration on Tuesday declaring solidarity with Ma’dani. The demonstration as well suicide attempt has made the police all the more vigilant in the place. Thousands of PDP members have been staying at Anvarsseri for several days.
Ma’dani was named 31st accused in Bengaluru blast case in the additional chargesheet filed in the court last Friday. The additional chargesheet names six more persons in addition to the 26 already accused in the case. The court has now issued arrest warrant against Ma’dani and Abdul Qader as all others are already in the custody of the police. Ma’dani was named reportedly according to the evidences provided by the accused persons Thadiyantavide Naseer and Shafas. The police had reportedly said in the chargesheet that the accused were in hiding.
Reports suggest that the investigating team has decided to speed up the procedures related to Ma’dani’s arrest. A team of the Karnataka police has already reportedly reached Kollam to facilitate the arrest. The state police also are in high vigil as per directions from the state home department.
Meanwhile Ma’dani’s family yesterday opined that some forces were trying to eliminate Ma’dani by the new case just as he was tortured in the Coimbatore case, according to reports. His parents requested to help in getting justice for Ma’dani.
In another development, Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappalli Ramachandran asked not to question the trust of the Intelligence Bureau. He was responding to media reports regarding Ma’dani’s accusation that certain people in the IB were trying to trap him. The minister said that such accusations would weaken the country. He added that necessary investigation would be carried if any complaint was received about any officer. The case against Ma’dani was registered by Bengaluru police and the centre or its agencies had no role in it. The IB functioned beyond any party-group favouritism, he added.
