Delhi simmers at 44.8, hot week lies ahead

New Delhi: The national capital simmered Sunday with the maximum temperature at 44.8 degrees Celsius – six degrees above average. With no respite in sight, residents need to buckle up for a hot week ahead, to go by what weather officials said.

“The mercury levels will see a rise and no rains are expected for the coming days,” an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

On Monday, the city can expect a maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsuis and a minimum of 30 degrees, the official said.

The minimum temperature Sunday was 29.8 degrees Celsius, one notch above average.

On Saturday, the maximum temperature recorded was 43 degrees Celsius.

On May 13, Delhi saw a maximum temperature of 44.4 degrees Celsius, breaking a four-year record for that month.

The official added that the humidity level Saturday was normal and this will continue for the next week.
