The Aligarh Muslim University had planned to open satellite centres in five states, but one state is not willing for the same. Tamil Nadu has requested that the state be chosen for the centre instead. Satellite centres in Murshidabad in West Bengal and Malappuram in Kerala will begin classes of MBA and BA LLB in the coming academic year.

There are also plans for a Media College and Islamic Cultural Centre in Chennai. The Cultural Centre with modern facilities will have digital library, conference hall and research centre. Another plan is to establish an International University for women as well as a medical college. The Board is reportedly seeking financial help from Arab countries for the university. The university is proposed to be in Karaikudi in Shivaganga district. The Board is preparing a report to get funds from the Union HRD Ministry for the special centres. All plans are supposed to be completed within five years, Kaviko told media persons.

Kaviko explained that the Board has taken the decision to set up educational institutions as it has a lot of land across the state and it hopes to prevent encroachments on the land.
