Chandigarh: Nearly 75 percent voters cast their franchise in panchayat elections held in eight districts of Haryana, state Election Commissioner Dharam Vir said Tuesday.
“This is the preliminary voting figure. The exact percentage would be known after polling parties return,” he said.
Barring stray incidents of violence in four villages, the poll process remained largely peaceful, Dharam Vir said. He said that re-poll is likely to be ordered in five-six polling stations after the report from polling officials.
Polling for 13,367 seats of panchayat members, 1,365 panchayat heads, 670 members of Panchayati Samitis and 130 members of Zila Parishads took place in eight districts – Gurgaon, Hisar, Karnal, Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak, Rewari and Yamuna Nagar.
