However, Bhunia also criticised the Trinamool for its attack on a Congress delegation at Khejuri in East Midnapore district Monday.

Addressing a party rally at Mangalkote of Burdwan district, Bhunia said the Left Front has to go as the people were desperate for a change.

“The Congress and the Trinamool will jointly end the Left Front rule and free the people from the tyranny of the Communists,” he said at a rally organised to protest the attack by Marxist cadres on a Congress delegation led by Bhunia at Mangalkote on July 15 last year.

Promising Congress workers that the party’s fortunes will turn around in the state, Bhunia said party chief Sonia Gandhi has told him to reach out to the people and build up a good organisation.

He urged Congressmen to strengthen the party in the state. “Our party flag must flutter from every worker’s residence.”

He urged the district superintendents of police not to bow to the diktats of the CPI-M as its rule was numbered.
