New Delhi : A 27-year-old man allegedly strangled his cousin after the latter was rude to him as he was unemployed. The man has been arrested, police said Thursday.
Santosh Kumar Singh was arrested Wednesday for allegedly killing his cousin Brijesh Kumar at their rented accommodation in Malviya Nagar area of south Delhi last month.
Police said after killing his cousin, Singh bolted the door from outside and escaped to Nagpur in Maharashtra with the deceased’s mobile phone, ATM card and the room key. The neighbours alerted police after foul smell emanated from the room.
After a brief stay in Maharashtra, the accused went to Kolkata, but returned to the capital after he ran out of money, police said.
“We sent teams to both Nagpur and Kolkata, but it was found that the accused had already left for the capital. Surveillance was mounted and Santosh was arrested from Mehrauli area in south Delhi,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South District) Anil Shukla said.
“Santosh in his interrogations revealed that he was jobless for the past three months and Brijesh used to pass rude remarks on him. He said in deep frustration he strangulated him with a rope and escaped,” Shukla added.
