Ma’dani not to approach SC for anticipatory bail

By TwoCircles.net Staff Correspondent,

Kollam: PDP chairman Abdunnasir Ma’dani yesterday stated that he had put an end to the moves to approach the Supreme Court for anticipatory bail in connection with the Bengaluru blast case. He was speaking to media persons at Anvarsseri in Kollam when the Karnataka police had already reached the district to accelerate the procedures of his arrest and the Kerala government repeated its offer of cooperation.

Ma’dani said that he was not approaching the Supreme Court as efforts to arrest were on even though there was chance for anticipatory bail from the apex court. He would submit to arrest and continue his legal battle for justice. ‘Taking the fasts of Ramzan in masjids and native place is more peaceful and happier. I will take positively the loss of that opportunity through the arrest. Anyway, it is better to pray alone’, he said.

He expressed fear that he might not come out of jail even though he was innocent, as in the Coimbatore case. That would depend entirely upon how the case would be treated. ‘I am the living example for the fact that if state tries to destroy a person, it can be done.’ He requested not to create any problems in connection with his arrest and not to respond emotionally. He said that he might be heading to a bigger torture than in Coimbatore. ‘The Bengaluru case is graver than the Coimbatore case. Evidences were collected against me after my arrest in the Coimbatore case, but it is not so now. The case is planned well enough to deny anticipatory bail. The IB and the BJP government in Karnataka are behind this’. He added that he would give details of those who conspired against him if he managed to come back from Bengaluru.

Regarding the CPI (M), he said that the party had never held his hands and so he was not feeling that they left him. Prakash Karat’s statement that the case against him was not part of the communal agenda of the BJP was new information. He accused the BJP of trying to make the matter communal. ‘The Anvarsseri is not a centre of terrorism or extremism, nor is it the headquarters of the PDP. It is where the classes are held for the students of the orphanage. Nine out of the ten teachers here are Hindus. No money has been collected from Arabs for its running’. He added that the media had followed an unbiased approach in his case.

The PDP yesterday stopped the fasting satyagraha that has been going on in front of the Anvarsseri for the last 56 days since June 16. The satyagraha was stopped due to the beginning of Ramzan. PDP members and supporters of Ma’dani flowed to Anvarsseri yesterday even late at night. The prevailing tense situation was aggravated when a PDP member tried to commit suicide at 3 pm. He was rescued and taken away.

Karnataka Home Minister VS Acharya expressed hope that the Kerala police would cooperate for the arrest of Ma’dani. Ma’dani was chargesheeted on the basis of evidences and testimonies. The investigating officers would decide the time for the arrest. He added that the Kerala police had not cooperated much in the blast case. Janata Dal (S) president HD Devegowda accused the Karnataka government of trying to overstate the Ma’dani issue. He accused that the BJP government was using the issue to divert attention from the Bellary mining issue and the anti-incumbency feeling in the state.

Meanwhile, CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat said that the party had never considered the PDP as a terrorist organisation. PDP had extended support to the LDF impressed with its policies. But, the party leadership analysed the sharing of stage with Ma’dani as a fault. He added that the present case against Ma’dani was a criminal one and that it was upto the PDP to save him. Karat had earlier said that the case against Ma’dani need not be seen as part of the anti-Muslim policies followed by BJP governments.

Though the Karnataka police have arrived in Kerala yesterday for arrest procedures, it is reported that the Kerala government has suggested that the arrest may be carried only after some days. Arresting Ma’dani from Anvarsseri could create law and order problems. The home ministry has reportedly asked the Karnataka police to delay the arrest till Sunday.

Ma’dani, the 31st accused in the Bengaluru blast case, always stated that he was innocent of the charges made against him. However, he made clear his willingness to abide by the law and submit to arrest if that was the legal way.
