Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Thursday welcomed the Ayodhya verdict saying it should not be seen as the victory or defeat of anyone, as the state remained calm after the judgment.
He said that the court ruling has paved a legal and constitutional way for the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya.
He said that the decision would prove to be a catalytic agent for strengthening the unity of India. “It should not be seen as the victory or defeat of anyone but as the triumph of the unity of the country,” he added.
Father Cedric Prakash, director of Prashant, an Ahmedabad-based centre for human rights, justice and peace, termed it as a historic verdict.
“We all need to respect the judgement and ensure that peace and harmony reign in every corner of the country,” he said.
“There should now be a spirit of healing, reconciliation and tolerance and a new determination to go on ahead,” he added.
He said that the time has come to show to the world that we are a mature democracy and that our strength lies in our diversity and respect for all.
Meanwhile, the state remained calm Thursday even as the security personnel maintained vigil to deal with any contingency.
Official sources said that no untoward incident was been reported after the Ayodhya verdict and police and additional reinforcements, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF), continue to be on an alert.
