Jammu : The Congress, a partner in the ruling coalition in Jammu and Kashmir, should either endorse Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s remarks on the accession of the state or quit the government, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanded Saturday.
“Either the Congress should endorse what Omar has said about the accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India or it should disassociate itself from the same and quit the government,” BJP’s state unit spokesman Ramesh Arora told media persons here.
The Congress should “break its silence,” he said.
Speaking in the assembly in Srinagar Wednesday, Omar said that Jammu and Kashmir “had acceded to India, not merged with it”, and the solution to the Kashmir issue lay in the satisfaction of people of all the three regions of the state as also that of the “neighbouring country”, a reference to Pakistan.
Although Congress spokesman Manish Tiwari clarified that “there was no difference between accession and merger and Jammu and Kashmir was an integral part of India”, the party’s state unit was silent over the remarks.
