Ranchi: A contempt of court petition was filed against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Jharkhand High Court Friday for not filing any case in the service secret funds scam, for which a former state police chief is under scanner.
“A contempt petition has been filed in the court as the CBI has not lodged an FIR in the funds scam. The state government, in an affidavit, had raised no objection to the CBI probe but no case has been filed in the scam so far,” said lawyer Rajiv Kumar, who filed the contempt case.
According to informed sources, the state government has given its consent to the CBI to probe the scam, which relates to the withdrawal of Rs.5.6 crore March 16, 2006, and Rs.2.50 crore on March 7, 2008.
Two police officers – former state police chief V.D. Ram and former additional director general of police (ADGP), special branch, Rajiv Kumar – are under the scanner. While Ram is currently Director General (Home Guards), Rajiv Kumar is on central deputation.
Ram moved the high court Friday, challenging the state government’s approval for a CBI probe. Hearing the petition, the court asked the CBI not to file an FIR against Ram till Nov 1, when the next hearing takes place.
