Gandhinagar: The Gujarat High Court Monday granted permission to conduct voice sample test on two accused – Babu Bajrangi and Jaydeep Patel – in a case related to killings at the Naroda Gam area in Ahmedabad during the 2002 riots.
Justice M.R. Shah allowed the prosecution plea to seek the court’s nod to conduct the voice test.
Prosecution lawyer J.M. Panchal argued that a CD of a sting operation by a media organisation revealing their involvement and their acceptance of killing people in Naroda Gam was taken as evidence by the trial court.
He said that the voice sample test was necessary to prove that the voice in the sting operation’s CD matched with the accused’s voice.
Earlier, a special court trying the riots cases rejected the plea of Supreme Court appointed special investigation team (SIT) to take the voice samples.
The special court observed that the law did not provide any specific provision under which a court could direct the accused to give voice samples for a test.
In a sting operation, Bajrangi and others admitted their involvement in the killings.
