Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University move to establish a state-of-art AMU Centre at Malappuram has received a big push as the Kerala government has acquired a total of 392 acres of land for setting up the centre. The state will hand over 218 acres of land at a function to be held at Thiruvananthapuram on December 28, 2010. A plot of 122 acres of land was given to AMU in a public function in March 2010.
The Chief Minister of Kerala V. S. Achutanand will be present at the Dec 28 land transfer ceremony and the leader of opposition in Kerala Assembly, Omen Chandi, the Minister of Higher Education, M. A. Baby, Revenue Minister Rajan, Finance Minister Thomas and other prominent dignitaries will also be present. AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis, along with Registrar Prof. V. K. Abdul Jaleel and a team of University officials will be present when the land transfer document will be handed over to the University.
Driven by Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis, the AMU Malappuram Centre project is considered as a vital segment of the dream project to increase equitable access to quality education and capacity building in youths, particularly of minorities and marginalized social segments. The project aims at minority education, women’s education, technical education, vocational education, medical, nursing, management, law etc. ingraining in its all entirety the dimension of world-class standard equipped with advanced digital and green field technology.
Meanwhile, the University appointed consultant EdCIL has already submitted a Detailed Project Report and in about eight years’ period the Centre will become fully functional with 11285 students and an annual recurring expenditure of Rs. 10585 Lakhs, informed Dr Rahat Abrar, PRO, AMU.
