RSS questions authenticity of Aseemanand’s confession

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Friday questioned the authenticity of the confessional statement of Swami Aseemanand about his role in terror activities and said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had resorted to political gimmicks by leaking it to media.

“We do not know the authenticity of the confession… It should have remained with the magistrate only. The way it has found place in media suggests a sinister attempt to defame certain individuals and organisations,” RSS spokesman Ram Madhav told IANS.

“The so-called confession is full of confusion and contradiction… there is no evidence to substantiate the wild allegations,” he said, adding that the confession might have been made under duress.

“We do not know if the confession has been given under duress. We are examining all the aspects… lawyers are seized of the whole thing. We will see,” Madhav said.

He said that the organisation had been cooperating with the investigating agencies and instead of taking investigations forward, the agency has resorted to political gimmicks.

“CBI has resorted to this gimmick to leak to the media and it smacks of some sinister design to defame the RSS and senior functionaries,” he said.

A weekly magazine said Aseemanand, who worked for Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram in Dangs district of Gujarat, confessed about his role in the Malegaon, Samjhauta Express train, Ajmer and Mecca Masjid bombings before a magistrate.
