Money laundering charges filed against two ex-ministers

Ranchi: Charges against two former Jharkhand ministers Enos Ekka and Harinarayan Rai were framed in Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court here Monday.

The Enforcement Directorate pleaded in the PMLA court of G.K. Singh to initiate trial against the two former ministers accused of amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.

The two were present in court. Rai filed a discharge petition and denied the charges. Ekka too will file discharge petition Jan 22.

As per ED’s charges, Ekka amassed assets of Rs.6.67 crore while Rai accumulated assets of Rs.1.63 crore.

The ED had filed cases under PMLA against both Rai and Ekka in September 2009.

The two have been in jail for more than one year now in graft cases.
