New Delhi: The brutal and shocking assassination of Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti, Minority Affairs Minister of Pakistan in Islamabad, is an action of wanton terrorism which is aimed to propagate ideology of hatred to stifle the voices of sanity, said Mr. Subhash Chowdhary, chairman, Non- Aligned Students and Youth Movement (NASYM).
The murder of Mr. Bhatti and others and persecution of minorities in Pakistan is a blot on Pakistan and reflect that the country has failed to protect its citizens, added Chowdhary.
“Mr. Bhatti assassination and its claim by Taliban have once again proved what NASYM has been saying all along that there cannot be a good and bad Taliban. Evil will always remain because it is fed by such radical ideologies,” Chowdhary said in a press statement.
The killing of an important leader of minorities in Pakistan who was also an important minister shows the threats and pressures under which minorities are living in Pakistan. After the assassination of Punjab Governor Salman Taseer, who was also killed for the same reason for which Mr. Bhatti has been assassinated, the indifference of the Government to Mr. Bhatti’s security is shocking, he said.
