New Delhi: Sachin Tendulkar here Wednesday became the first batsman to aggregate 2,000 runs in World Cup history.
He scored 27 runs in India’s five-wicket win during the India-Netherlands Group B match and took his World Cup tally to 2009 in 40 games at an average of 57.40, including five hundreds and 13 fifties.
The other highlights:
Yuvraj Singh (51 not out) posted his third successive fifty at the world cup for the first time.
Yuvraj’s batting average of 159.00 (159 in three innings) is the highest by any batsman in the 2011 World Cup.
Yuvraj has received his second MOM award at the world cup – both in successive games.
Wesley Barresi and Eric Szwarczynski were associated in a stand of 56, equalling the highest stand for the first wicket for Netherlands at the world cup. Peter Cantrell and Nolan Clarke had recorded 56 against South Africa at Rawalpindi on March 5, 1996.
Peter Borren (38 off 36 balls) has recorded his highest innings at the world cup.
India became the first team to earn seven points at the 2011 World Cup. New Zealand and Pakistan, in Group A, have six points each.
India have won 35, lost 25 out of 62 played – winning percentage 58.19 (NR 1 & Tied 1)
Netherlands have won just two and lost 16 out of 18 contested – winning percentage 11.11.
India have won their second game against Netherlands at the world cup. They had won by 60 runs at Paarl on February 12, 2003.
By completing his 100 wickets in ODIs, Yuvraj became the third Indian all-rounder after Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly and the eighth to complete the double of 7,000 runs and 100 wickets in ODIs.
Apart from the above three Indian all-rounders, Sanath Jayasuriya, Steve Waugh, Jacques Kallis, Aravinda de Silva and Chris Gayle have achieved the double of 7,000 runs and 100 wickets.
Yuvraj has taken seven wickets at an average of 23.14 in four games – his best bowling performance in a world cup competition.
Netherlands (189) have posted their highest total against India at the world cup, surpassing the 136 at Paarl on February 12, 2003.
The Indians have managed to make 82 for three in the first ten overs – the highest by any team in the mandatory powerplay in the present competition.
Zaheer Khan has taken his tally of wickets at the world cup to 34 in 18 games at an average of 19.11. His wicket-aggregate is exceeded only by Javagal Srinath – (44 in 34 matches) for India.
The ninth wicket partnership of 38 between Borren and Mudassar Bukhari is an ODI record at Ferozeshah Kotla, New Delhi.
Zaheer Khan has bagged three wickets each in successive matches at the world cup – 3 for 64 against England, 3 for 30 against Ireland and 3 for 20 against Netherlands.
Zaheer has captured 11 wickets at an average of 14.00 – the highest by an Indian bowler in the present competition.
Pieter Seelaar (3/53) has recorded his second best performance at the world cup – the best is 3 for 45 against West Indies at Delhi on February 28, 2011.
