Trott is leading run scorer in World Cup, Strauss second

Chennai : England batsman Jonathan Trott became the leading run getter in the 2011 World Cup after he scored a valuable 47 in his team’s 18-run win over the West Indies in their must-win Group B match here Thursday night.

Other statistical highlights:

* Trott has 336 runs at an average of 56.00, including four fifties. Trott is the only cricketer in the world to average 60-plus in Tests (61.53) and 50-plus in ODIs (54.27).

* Andrew Strauss’s tally of 329 in six games at an average of 54.83, including one century and one fifty, is the next best in the World Cup.

* In England’s eleven victories in his brief career, Trott has aggregated 637 runs at an average of 63.70, including two centuries and 6 fifties.

* England’s 18-run triumph is their smallest by runs margin against the West Indies at the world cup – their fifth in six successive World Cup games against West Indies.

* The West Indies have beaten England just once at the World Cup – by 92 runs at Lord’s on June 23, 1979.

* Sulieman Benn (10-0-56-0) produced his worst bowling performance at the World Cup. He has gone wicketless for the first time in the competition.

* Darren Sammy (41 off 29 balls) registered his best innings at the World Cup.

* Andre Russell’s career-best knock (49 off 46 balls) was his third best by a number eight batsman for the West Indies at the World Cup. Deryck Murray holds a record for the West Indies – 61 not out against Pakistan at Edgbaston on June 11, 1975, followed by Ridley Jacobs’ 50 against New Zealand at Port Elizabeth on February 13, 2003.

* Russell is the first West Indian to register 40-plus and bag four wickets in the same World Cup match. This is the 11th instance
in the history of the World Cup.

* James Tredwell (4/48) has produced his best bowling performance in ODIs. He deservingly got his first Man of the Match award.

* Chris Gayle enjoys an outstanding ODI record on Indian soil, aggregating 1,117 (ave.55.85) in 22 games – including six hudreds and three fifties. His batting average is the second best in India amongst the batsmen with 1,000 runs or more in ODIs in India.

* West Indies made 78 for two in the mandatory powerplay – their best performance in the 2011 World Cup.

* Kemar Roach has dismissed 13 batsmen at an average of 12.00 in five matches. His tally is the highest by a West Indian in the 2011 World Cup.

* Roach became the third bowler to capture 13 wickets or more in the 2011 World Cup, joining Shahid Afridi (16) and Harvir Baidwan (13).
