Bangalore : Hundreds exploded firecrackers and shouted slogans here Saturday to hail the government’s acceptance of Anna Hazare’s demands for stronger measures to curb corruption.
Four Bangaloreans who were on fast at Freedom Park here, in solidarity with the veteran Gandhian, ended their protest with orange juice even as hundreds hailed the victory of what they called was people’s power.
The four sipped the juice after word reached the Freedom Park in the heart of the city that Hazare had ended his 97-hour long fast at Janata Mantar in New Delhi.
At many places in Bangalore and across Karnataka, people distributed sweets to celebrate the victory.
In support of Hazare, Mahendra Kumar Gandhi, a yoga trainer in Bangalore, went on fast the same day. Three others joined him April 6.
Every day, hundreds of people joined the four at Freedom Park to express support for rooting out corruption from the country.
