New Delhi: There have been large scale police atrocities on Muslim families in Bhattta Parsaul, a village in Gautambudhanagar during the farmers’ agitation against the land acquisition. According to Peace Party, Muslim families were especially singled out and mercilessly beaten. The party has alleged that even women were not spared. More than dozens were illegally put into jail and around same number of people sustained bullet injuries and multiple fractures
Highlighting the gory picture and sordid affair of police atrocities in the village, MJ Khan, general secretary of Peace Party, told TwoCircles.net over phone that there is a strong human angle to the atrocities on villagers in Bhatta Parsaul which includes Muslims also. Khan further added that most of these Muslim families targeted by police had nothing to do with the agitation because they are very poor and are mainly daily wagers.
Khan said that fact finding team of Peace Party which went to the village last Friday found out that, “These poor helpless families have been cordoned off by police and are facing crunch of ration and money. They are facing severe hardship because men who can bring food for the family are missing.”
With no one to earn, women and children are on the brink of starvation, Khan added.
Peace Party has appealed for immediate relief to the affected families and has also demanded a CBI enquiry into the whole matter. The party has also written to the National Commission for Minorities and National Commission for Women for initiating immediate and strict actions against the guilty officials and policemen.
When TCN asked the general secretary of Peace Party why the party was so late in highlighting the issue, Khan said that, “We had no idea that Muslims constitute more than 15% of the area affected by the police atrocities. We highlighted the moment we were informed by people from the village.”
The Peace Party is a political party which was launched in 2009. The party has got a strong base among Muslims in eastern UP. Trying to expand its base to western UP, the party has joined the front of small parties led by Rashtriya Lok Dal for 2012 assembly elections.
