Ramadi (Iraq) : Iraqi police and anti-Al Qaeda fighters have discovered remains of 40 bodies in Iraq’s western province of Anbar, a security source said Sunday.
“A joint team of Iraqi police and fighters from the Awakening Council found the remains of 40 bodies in Tharthar area here, during a search operation in a village,” a member of the council told Xinhua.
The area, where the mass grave was found, had long been under Al Qaida’s control, the source said, adding, the security forces believe the victims were previously kidnapped and killed by the Al-Qaida members.
Police have also found dozens of civilian cars in a scrap-yard, which they believe had been previously seized by Al Qaida fighters.
Iraqis in Anbar and other cities have joined the US-led forces and the Awakening Councils to fight Al Qaida.
