Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Government has announced national awards instituted in different disciplines for the years 2008-09 and 2009-10. Though some awards for these years have already been conferred, however the remaining awards have now been announced.
Culture Minister Mr. Laxmikant Sharma informed that well-known painter Jairam Patel of Gujarat will be conferred on national Kalidas award for the year 2008-09 in plastic arts while Guru Kalamandalam Gopi has been selected for honouring with national Kalidas award in classical dance and well-known vocalist Pt. Chhanulal Mishra will be given away national Kalidas award in classical music.
Similarly, national Maithilisharan Gupta award instituted in literature will be given away to well-known writer of Bhopal Ramesh Chandra Shah. Besides, national Tulsi award for male artists in folk-arts will be conferred on Rangaswami Vedar of Chennai. National Iqbal award constituted for Urdu literature will be given away to Gopichand Narang of New Delhi.
National Devi Ahilya award to be given in folk-arts will be conferred on Kalbelia dancer Ms Gulabo of Rajasthan. Well-known satirist K.P. Saxena of Lucknow has been selected for national Sharda Joshi award. National Kumar Gandharva award in classical music for youth artists will be given away to Pt. Sanjeev Abhyankar of Pune.
The State Government has also announced national Kalidas award in plastic arts for the year 2009-10. The well-known painter Krishna Kanhai of Mathura has been selected to be honoured with this award.
It may be mentioned here that a sum of Rs. 1 lakh 25 thousand is given under national Kumar Gandharv award while an amount of Rs. two lakh each is given under other remaining awards. Along with this, the awardees are also given a letter of citation, shawl and “shrifal” (coconut) as a mark of honour. Award ceremony programme will be organised in Bhopal.
