Abdul Ghaffar Sheikh dies on his way to AFMI Convention

Farmington (Michigan): Abdul Ghaffar Sheikh, an active member of American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin [AFMI], died on 30th November 2011 at the Mumbai airport on reaching from Toronto. He came to India for attending AFMI’s convention to be held on 24-25th December, 2011 in Ranchi.

He was a dedicated member of AFMI and served as the president of Canada chapter of AFMI. He was deeply concerned about the educational status of Indian Muslims and had many ideas and plans of improving it.

Besides AFMI, he was associated with a number of community organizations in the Greater Toronto region.

In the past eight years he had hardly missed out any of AFMI’s conventions in India, where he often moderated or spoke at the sessions. He interacted with the student awardees, giving them advice and inquiring about their career plans.

The members of AFMI expressed profound sadness on his sudden demise. They termed it a big lose to the AFMI in particular and the community in general. They prayed for his maghfirah and expressed condolence to his family and relatives.
