18 building collapse cases in Delhi

New Delhi : A total of 18 cases of building collapse have been reported in the capital so far this year, in which 21 people died, the Rajya Sabha was informed Wednesday.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Urban Development Saugata Roy said: “As per the report by the Delhi Police, there were 18 cases of a building or a part of it collapsing in Delhi, in which 21 people died and 62 people were injured.”

The minister added that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had carried out a survey of over 17 lakh houses and has identified many old buildings which are in a dilapidated condition.

“In case of any building found to be dangerous, immediate necessary action as per the provisions of the Delhi Municipal Council Act is initiated against the owner,” Roy said.

He said that out of the 17,30,034 houses surveyed, 363 houses were found to be repairable, of which 43 houses have been repaired.
