Kolkata: She comes from a humble background – father works at a leather tanning factory, mother is bed-ridden since 2003. Father could not afford her higher education. She, therefore, took educational loan, and kept her ambition burning. Now she has delighted not only her family but the Muslim community in Kolkata as well.
Kulsum Nesa, daughter of Amjad Hussain, a resident of Topsia area in Kolkata city, has achieved First Class in M.Sc. (Bio-Medical Lab Science and Management) from Vidyasagar University, West Bengal. She is the 2nd Topper in her department. After a gap of 5 years, she is the first Muslim girl to have bagged the Silver Medal in M.Sc. (Bio-Medical Lab Sc. and Management) at the university.
Nesa’s parents hail from a remote village of East Uttar Pradesh. She has been a good student throughout her education life and this is why her father encouraged her to carry on with higher education. But as her father has a humble income, money has always been a restraint. She got loan from West Bengal Minorities Development and Finance Corporation to continue her journey of higher education.
Kulsum’s achievement is a matter of inspiration for young boys and girls here, which gives the message that no hurdle can stop one from getting higher education if you have faith in Allah and yourself.
Kulsum’s mother had met with an accident in 2003 and since then she is bed ridden. She stays with her father, mother and brother. Her brother has also completed his B.A.LLB from University of Calcutta this very year. Two children of her deceased sister also stay with them.
